A Sunday sail with Don...

Sunday, and I went for a longish sail with Don aboard his cruising 36 footer CHIMAERA. Like this one. Not a bad day at all. Pretty nice wind most of the day, very favorable tides all day, and it was what it was supposed to be.

While we were sailing back to New London, I had a chance to gawk at other boats like I like to do.

I saw this cool looking catboat sailing a parallel course to us but in the opposite direction. And then there were the houses of the Fishers Island kazillionaires to gawk at too, but I am not inclined to do that.

That's more or less it. The wars went on, the RedSox lost, The Yankees won, but this geezer had a good day anyway. Everyone ought to have a friend with a nice sailboat.

Taking Care of Jenny's Plant...

Well, I am not but Mrs is. The plant is a resurrection of same from last year. Here it is in it's Monday condition. Today is Wednesday and it doesn't seem to be still healthy, but again, not my problem. Besides Jenny is away and won't be back for many a day.

Meanwhile I have been fooling around and did some of these other pictures for Timeshots.

Which one to use? I decided that while none were what I wanted, I'd use one anyway.

Compromises as usual.

Let's See, where were we...

...oh, I remember. I was musing about the new toy camera and saying that the camera I coveted was going to stay as just that. The camera I coveted. Well, as usual want turned to must have this so I do. And the toy which was really kind of fun and really my cup of tea is now on the shelf and I am taking lots of pictures with the "must have" and making mistake after mistake after mistake. Here is a typical one.................... and don't even ask. The new camera is not a turkey despite all evidence.

New Toy...well sort of anyway

The other day, while looking for Christmas stuff online, I came across this little toy digital camera on a keychain. I was---actually still am---intrigued by it. I bought it, I think they charged my 12 dollars or so and it arrived yesterday. It came with software, and a more or less dead AAA battery. But all in all it works. Here is a copy of today's picture
which I took while I was putting gasoline in my car. I used the little toy editor to frame the picture. Cool! The result is exactly what I expected. I like toy cameras. Always have from way back when I bought little tiny "spy cameras" from the back of comic books to a lomo which I recently bought, used and then resold on eBay. All were cool, but this new one is wicked cool. Now I won't have to get the camera I have been coveting for a while since I have this new toy to keep me amused.

Timeshots is Not Going Away...after all is said ...

...and done, I have decided to keep it around in cyberspace for a while anyway. So pictures like this one which, for some reason that I am not able to fathom, is by far the most searched and probably seen of the 'timeshots' that have been posted there.

This picture which I have called saturated spring and also springwoods, is very frequently searched by Google image searches of European and Korean origin. I have not figured out the connection. So connection fathomed or not, it and the dozens of others there will be there for Google to find.

The Original Timeshots is Going Away

editthispage.com, which has been providing free hosting for my Timeshots site has informed me that they will no longer be providing free hosting after December 1st this year. This is not too surprising. So, here is the last picture that I posted there a few weeks ago.

It was just a routine picture of Don and me heading in to Shaws Cove where Don keeps his sailboat CHIMAERA. It was our last sail of the 2005 season.

To mark the coming end of the original Timeshots, here is the first picture that I published there back in the early days of this kind of thing. It's a fairly bad scan of an analog picture taken in Salmon Cove off of the Connecticut River back in 1991 when we used to cruise in my houseboat CHIMERA. Yes, Don's boat which he bought after I sold mine is named after it, more or less. But that's another and longer story.

So, goodbye to Timeshots. Maybe it will still be floating out in that unreal world of cyberspace which I have never fully understood, maybe not. Doesn't really matter though, does it.

Without Comment

I never did publish this picture on the original Timeshots, although I should have. Today seems like a good day to publish it here. Bush dumped the hapless sycophant. I backed out of a sailing trip that I have been looking forward to for over two years. Well, I thought I was looking forward to it. Guess not. The press and some of us Bush despisers have been out of breath waiting for something to happen to the Rove character, and we still are. Waiting and out of breath. The Chicago White Sox have actually won the World Series, even though no-one even cares. Well, Marilyn does. It's nearly November. That is a fact.

I am anxious and waiting for more strange things. Maybe Bush will have another little private talk with Jesus and bomb Cuba. But if Castro is too scary, isn't there another little island nation like Granada somewhere that needs to be saved from itself. I can feel it in my bones. Something is on the way.

From out of the Past...

This picture, one of my Timeshots that I consider classic was taken while on a fall trip to Cliff Island, Maine back in the sixties. Marilyn (she is the one smoking the cigarette and looking at me with an odd look) and I were invited by Dave and Jane to spend a weekend with them on Cliff Island in a house that belonged to Jane's family. I am not sure what they were thinking when I took this picture. Maybe they were not thinking about anything. Now, when I look at the picture I think about how the forty odd years have changed us all. And how we are all the same too. I wish I could remember a lot more about the trip. I do remember walking all around the outside of the Island with Dave one day. We did a total circumnavigation. I don't know what Marilyn and Jane did that day. Probably hung out made small talk a while and then retreated to their own places. I know that at the end of the trip, Marilyn and I agreed that we probably wouldn't go back, but that we did have an intriguing time. And what we used to call a good go-out.

There is so much more that I could say.

Another Old Picture From the Original Timeshots

Here is another old picture originally posted on the original Timeshots---for a look at the original with calendar links and listings of all the pictures have a look here---

This picture, now that I remember, was never published on Timeshots. But it should have been since it is the first of a series taken over a near thirty five year period titled 'three of us...somewhere, doing something or other...' and all just as ordinary as this one. Here, three of the four of us were walking around somewhere looking at other peoples boats long before Don--that's the guy in the picture--and I had boats of our own. The others in the picture are Carol and Marilyn.

In the years since this we have gone to lots of places and done lots of stuff. (I don't have a boat anymore, but Don does.) And we have taken many 'Three of Us' pictures. And a few that actually include the four of us..

We are going on a short trip next week, We are going up to New Hampshire to revisit some places we visited about ten years or so ago. Just a short two day trip. We may actually get another 'three of us' picture that I might post here one of these days.

Something New

I have given up on the Red Sox for this year. It's back to pre-2004 and as far as I am concerned that is good. Here is my tribute to baseball. But not to the coming Rita. My Rita is forever. As is baseball.

One of the hundreds of photographs and snapshots that I originally posted on timeshots.editthispage.com . I have no real idea why I am putting it here, except that it reflects how I feel today.
